Schenker moves into Romania with Romtrans acquisition

DB Schenker – Deutsche Bahn’s transportation and logistics subsidiary – has bought Romanian freight-forwarding company Romtrans.

The Austrian company has spent the last few weeks acquiring over 99 per cent of Romtrans’ shares. Based in Bucharest, Romtrans is Romania’s largest forwarding company with annual revenues of €90 million.

“With Romtrans under the corporate umbrella of DB Schenker we are significantly expanding our presence in Romania,” said Dr Norbert Bensel, of Schenker’s board for transportation and logistics.

Elmar Wieland, Schenker chairman added: “The combination of the dense infrastructure operated by Romtrans and DB Schenker’s international network is an extremely promising one that will open up tremendous opportunities for us for the future.”
