Schiphol’s thoroughbred horse solution

A THOROUGHBRED animals centre has opened at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.
Located at the premises of handling company Aviapartner, the Schiphol Animal Centre is an independent inspection and Customs clearance point, designed for the reception and management of horses being moved by air.
Employing highly qualified staff members (including an in-house vet) it takes care of the smooth handling of highly valued, horses entering and exiting the EU, says a statement.
The centre provides full handling of documentation for the Dutch food and consumer product safety authority and offers state-of-the-art accommodation and ramps, with spacious stables in four separate units.
There is full supervision and 24 security cameras keep watch on proceedings.
Horses are unloaded from the stalls with ramps that have been specially designed for the facility. The ramps ensure that the horses leave the stalls in a comfortable and safe way.
“It is our mission to handle horses in the most comfortable, fast and safe way, from aircraft to Schiphol Animal Centre, says Edwin Hofstede, director of the project.
“The wellbeing of the horses is the starting point for all of our activities,” he adds.
