Swiss chairman, Jetzer, dies suddenly

ROLF Jetzer, Swiss International Air Lines chairman, has passed away unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack while hiking in the mountains.

Vice-chairman Walter Bosch will take over as chairman on an interim basis.

Under Jetzer, Swiss returned to profitability after its birth from the bankrupt Swissair in 2002. He also steered Swiss’ merger with the Lufthansa Group in 2007.

Swiss commented on Jetzer’s time as chairman. “He devoted unstinting energy and commitment to the airline’s positive development, playing a major role in shaping the company. The Swiss management and staff are indebted to him, and are deeply saddened.”

Jetzer is survived by his wife and son.
