Thai signs up Southern’s B777Fs

THAI Airways is to take two Southern Air Boeing 777-200 Long Range Freighters to operate initially on Bangkok to Europe services.Pruet Boobphakam, Thai executive vice-president commercial and acting managing director of cargo & mail commercial department, said that under the Aircraft Block Space Agreement, Thai has acquired all of the capacity on SAI’s brand new B777-freighters.The agreement marks Thai as the first operator in the region to offer the B777F to cargo customers. The two aircraft will arrive in early 2010 and will be tentatively be used on the Bangkok to Europe initially. Plans call for services to be extended to other destinations such as Australia and the USA.At the signing ceremony, Brian Neff, president of Southern air, said: “There is growing recognition in the cargo industry that the B777LRF will be the long-haul aircraft for the coming decade and beyond, and our new partnership with Thai Cargo only confirms this recognition.
