Tyler leaves Cathay for IATA, Slosar steps up

IATA has appointed Cathay Pacific’s Tony Tyler (pictured) as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Tyler will take over from Giovanni Bisignani who will stand down in July 2011. Tyler himself will step down from Cathay on 31 March next year.
Tyler’s replacement will be Cathay’s current chief operating officer, John Slosar.
Slosar has worked for Cathay Pacific’s parent, Swire Group, for about 30 years. After the announcement, Slosar said that his priority as CEO would be to increase Chinese operations, as there are “huge” opportunities there.
With Cathay’s cargo joint venture with Air China due to start services at the end of the year and 10 747-8 freighters due for delivery next year, the cargo side of the business will begin the year with a promising start.
