Universal Freight gains quailty certificate

ON 27 June 2008, the Universal Freight Organisation in England, received the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems certification, making the international forwarder organisation one of the first freight networks in the world to receive the accreditation.

The certification, awarded after an official audit at the UFO head office by official ISO auditors, Gerhard and Christian Dischke from ISO-ZERT in Stuttgart, followed an extensive six-month review of all the business processes that take place at the UFO head office.

To become certified, the UFO head office developed and implemented a comprehensive Quality Management and Procedures Manual. The manual outlines the strict processes required to ensure the continued development and maintenance of the worldwide network.

Rachel Humphrey, chairwoman of UFO, said: “I feel very honoured to be one of the world’s first freight networks to receive ISO’s prestigious accreditation.

“Quality excellence is a constant goal at the UFO head office and receiving the ISO for our quality management system assures us that we are not only doing a good job but creating a standard that will be recognised by our member companies, airlines, shipping lines, freight forwarders, manufacturers, importers and exporters around the world.”

At their recent annual network meeting, which took place in Cancun (May 2008), Guillaume Drucy, head of IATA, e-freight implementation, gave an update on the e-freight projects and also held 1-2-1 meetings with UFO members. “I gained very valuable input on some of the key points that independent forwarders like your members, would want in any e-freight solution.”
