Victorville – putting meat on the bones

IN the industry it goes by the name of ‘the boneyard’, but now Victorville Airport in southern California (US) could jump out of the grave by attracting some all-cargo airlines.

This week officials at the airport – also known as Southern California Logistics Airport – will meet with a company interested in establishing Victorville’s airport as a link for international cargo.

Keith Metzler, Victorville’s assistant city manager and director of SCLA, has been speaking with aviation consultant Claasen Group International about establishing a dedicated link to airports in Canada and Europe, using SCLA to connect international businesses with Southern California markets.

The airport saw some cargo operations in the early 2000s but it only lasted for about one year.
