Vietnam attracts new services

WITH labour costs increasing in China, Vietnam continues its evolution of turning into Asia-Pacific’s manufacturing country of choice.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts Vietnam will become the world’s third-fastest growing market for freight in 2014.

Five more airlines are taking advantage of the increase in cargo needing to be shipped out of the country by starting up services this year. The latest to launch or resume flights by the end of this year will be: Air China Cargo, Air Hong Kong (both China), Jeju Air (South Korea), Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudi Arabia), Silk Airlines (Singapore) and United Airlines (the US).

Silk Airlines already flies to Da Nang in Central Vietnam, but now wants to start flying to the capital, Hanoi, in the north.

Vietnam is already working on an upgrade of all of its aviation infrastructure, particularly at Cam Ranh (serving the city of Nha Trang), Da Nang and Noi Bai (serving Hanoi and pictured above right) Airports. It is also building Long Thanh Airport, due for completion in 2020, to serve Ho Chi Minh City in the south.
