Virgin Atlantic Cargo has strong start to year

VIRGIN Atlantic Cargo has reported annual revenues, for the 2009/10 financial year, of £161 million carrying 194,000 tons of airfreight on the Virgin Atlantic Airlines and V Australia networks.
In the first quarter of the new financial year Virgin Atlantic Cargo’s revenue grew 36 per cent, driven by a 25 per cent tonnage increase. The airline also saw yield improvement in the first few months of 2010/11, reflecting the total airfreight market.
John Lloyd, director of Virgin Cargo, said: “The air cargo industry has never seen a dip like the one experienced in 2008/9. We were quick to take action and as a result, although our revenues and tonnage declined 19 per cent and six per cent respectively, we managed our way through the downturn far better than most other carriers and suffered considerably less impact.
