Lufthansa Cargo to sell space on another digital platform

Frankfurt-based Lufthansa Cargo has signed up to sell its capacity on a second digital portal days after announcing a similar deal.
The cargo carrier announced today that customers will now be able to look up contracted rates, assess capacity, and book cargo on specific flights in real-time using the Freightos digital platform.
This will be expanded globally in coming months, beginning with a rollout in major European markets.
Lufthansa Cargo chief executive Peter Gerber said: “Through Lufthansa Cargo web service, we are driving the digitisation of our industry to offer our customers and partners a convenient and fast digital interface to our products and services."
Freightos WebCargo claims to have the world’s largest air cargo rate database. If capacity is unavailable, the system also supports manual online ad hoc pricing.
According to Zvi Schreiber, chief executive of Freightos: “Everyone’s talking about air cargo digitisation but for most it’s just talk.
"The result of on-demand booking is that goods will move faster, with up to a day shaved off transit time, and tens of dollars saved per shipment.”
The deal is a reflection of the cargo airline’s digital push. On Friday, Lufthansa announced it would be offering capacity on the cargo.one platform.
