Cargo Composites launches new Flyweight AKH container

Charleston, South Carolina-headquartered ULD and pallet manufacturer Cargo Composites announced during this week’s IATA World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in Berlin (held between 15-17 March) that it is beginning series production on an entirely new lightweight container for narrowbody aircraft.
The company says that the Flyweight AKH container weighs just 53kg, yet remains extremely durable.
It adds lightweight, strong, thermoplastic honeycomb panels to the well-proven AKE design.
Testing on the new model finished at the end of last year, and Cargo Composites is to now begin manufacturing the new container.
“Our new Flyweight AKH type composite unit finally allows short-haul operators to benefit from the ongoing lightweight contest – not only by saving fuel and therefore reducing their environmental impact, but especially by noticeably increasing their payload,” said Tom Pherson, Cargo Composites president and chief executive.
James Rigby, the company’s director of sales and marketing, added: “The new AKH units considerably enhance our product portfolio and will definitely support us as we continue to pursue our ambitious growth path.”
