DB Schenker to offer US-Aus freighter service

DB Schenker has launched a new freighter service between Chicago and Sydney as it looks to offer a faster route to market.

The weekly Direct Express service will utilise B777F capacity, departing Chicago at 22:45 on Mondays and arriving in Sydney on Wednesdays at 12:05.

The forwarder said the service is designed to offer shippers in the US Midwest the fastest air cargo service to Australia and would be suited to industries where reliability and speed are essential.

DB Schenker US chief commercial officer Chad Heller said: “We are very excited about our new service down under.

“The US is Australia’s third largest trading partner and represents a significant portion of imports to the country.

“A large portion of these imports include the automotive, pharmaceutical and industrial manufacturing industries, many of which are located in the Midwest. With speed-to-market becoming more and more critical, our new Direct Express – Australia service is well positioned to meet this need.”

The forwarder said the service would offer 102 metric tonnes of capacity each week, temperature controlled storage in both Sydney and Chicago and the opportunity to sign up to block space agreements.

“We are electronically linked to Australian Customs offices which allows ‘wheels-up’ pre-clearance of shipments before the flight arrives at its destination,” DB Schenker added. “This allows for the fastest clearance and delivery possible.”
