Volga-Dnepr Airlines is the wizard of Oz for 80 tons of energy equipment

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported 80 tons of energy equipment from Germany to Australia for General Electric to support the construction of a 32-turbine renewable energy wind farm.

A 36-ton wind turbine hub, four metres in length, and three 12.6-ton generators were positioned inside the Antonov 124-100 freighter at Cologne-Bonn airport using the aircraft’s own loading system and external crane.

Volga-Dnepr’s in-house team organised road transport to the German hub and then to the constructing place near Hallett in the mid-north region of South Australia after its arrival in Adelaide.

Ekaterina Andreeva, deputy commercial director of Volga-Dnepr Airlines, said: “This delivery is a very good example of how the long-term cooperation and permanent dialogue can result in saving time and money for our customer.

“Working closely with Volga-Dnepr’s longstanding partner GE, we could combine the urgent shipment of the wind turbine hub needed for the replacement and the transportation of three generators for new installations at the wind farm according to the project schedule.”
