Sovereign Speed enters airfreight market with Businesswings acquisition

Time-sensitive trucking firm Sovereign Speed has expanded into the airfreight market thanks to its acquisition of German Kassel-based airline Businesswings.

The acquisition means that Sovereign Group is now able to offer its customers all forms of urgent transport, from direct journeys to overnight transport, via its own express network or aircraft charters.

“For us, this is a strategic investment, because Sovereign Speed’s customer solutions – and in particular, the European express network, and the collection and delivery runs – can be perfectly combined with those of Businesswings,” said explains Frank Liebelt, group managing director of Sovereign Speed.

Businesswings will now operate as part of the Sovereign Speed as a full-fledged subsidiary. The company’s structure will remain the same and the current 20 employees and managing director Jens Maecker will remain with the company, which holds an air operator’s certificate.

“We are pleased to maintain the course of Businesswings and to continue the very successful business model with the existing team,” added Liebelt.
