KWE Canada lands forwarder Prestige Air Cargo

The Canadian arm of Kintetsu World Express (KWE) has acquired seafood specialist forwarder Prestige Air Cargo as it looks to grow its customer base.

KWE did not disclose the terms of the deal but said the acquisition offers “not only an opportunity to expand its customer base but also to create tremendous synergies with our existing business volumes”.

The Montreal-based company’s main cargo business is focused on the fresh, live, and frozen seafood business from the Atlantic Canada region with significant volumes moving to Asia and Europe

It said that Prestige Air Cargo manages and maintains significant air export tonnage with several of KWE Canada’s strategic airline partners.

The acquisition would therefore allow it to “further strengthen, expand, and solidify our presence in the Canadian perishable export market”.

“Our affiliation with Prestige will help solidify our market position in eastern Canada and will surely strengthen our overall market position coast to coast,” said Thomas Smith, president and managing director of KWE Canada.

“Adding Prestige Air Cargo to the KWE group of companies will contribute to our expanding volume of perishable export business throughout Asia as well as adding several new key destinations in Europe.”

Prestige will continue to be managed by President Nick Signoretta.
