The United Republic of Tanzania has placed an order for a B767-300 freighter at the Dubai Airshow.

The aircraft – which was part of wider order of B737s and a B787 – will be operated by Air Tanzania, the country’s national flag-carrier.

The freighter will be used to capitalise on Africa’s burgeoning cargo demand, Boeing said.

According to IATA statistics, cargo demand on the continent has been growing rapidly this year.

In September, for example, cargo demand in for African carriers was up by 19.2% year on year in CTK terms, following on from a 27.4% increase in August.

Air Tanzania chief executive Ladislaus Matindi said: “Adding to our 787 fleet, the introduction of the 737 Max and 767 Freighter will give Air Tanzania exceptional capability and flexibility to meet passenger and cargo demand within Africa and beyond.”
