East Midlands hits all-time high

The UK’s East Midlands Airport handled 309,000 tonnes of flown cargo in 2014, the best ever throughput in its 49-year history. Traffic was up 3.6 per cent on 2013’s volume.
The airport also beat its 2010 figure, its previous best year, by nearly 2,000 tonnes.
EMA is a main UK hub for express integrators DHL, UPS amd TNT who offer regular direct connections to the US as well as numerous points in Europe, Ireland and the UK.
It is also the country’s busiest air mail hub and handles about 200 ad hoc freight charters a year.
The airport’s managing director, Andy Cliffe, said the figures were testament to EMA’s central location in the UK: “We are well-placed to provide a dedicated convenient and cost-effective solution in supporting UK businesses engaged in high value sectors of the economy."
