The Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has let 33,000 sq ft of its warehouse space at World Freight Terminal to 3PL and freight forwarder Blacksmith Freight Services.

The large warehouse unit will be used by Blacksmith for storage and distribution functions, whilst the business operations will remain at the company’s existing 12,000 sq ft office and warehouse space at the freight terminal.

Roger Black, group chief executive of Blacksmith Freight Services, said: “As a local business, we are pleased to be able to occupy such prime warehouse space. The location at Manchester Airport offers excellent connectivity for our clients, and this new facility will enable us to continue to deliver high quality and customised service to our customer base and partners, both in the UK and globally.”

The World Freight Terminal at Manchester Airport accounts for the employment of more than 1,000 people, handling cargo carried on both freighters and passenger aircraft. Other companies with a presence at the site include dnata, Swissport, Kuehne+Nagel and FedEx.

Matthew Bird, head of investment assets at MAG, commented: “We are delighted to complete a 33,000 sq ft letting within our transit warehouses to Blacksmith Freight, supporting their continued expansion and ongoing commitment to the Manchester Airport location.”

UK-owned airport operator MAG owns and operate three airports – Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands.

In October 2019, dnata committed to a new £30m cargo handling facility at Manchester Airport’s World Freight Terminal.
