Logistics firm cargo-partner has officially opened its expanded logistics facility close to Slovenia’s Ljubljana Airport and announced a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project.

The company opened its iLogistics Center two years ago, but brought forward the planned expansion of the facility, originally scheduled for 2024-2026, to this year in response to rising demand.

The project brought the total area of the facility to 39,000 sq m, offering an additional 14,100 sq m of storage space on three floors.

A wide- and narrow-aisle racking system offers an additional 9,000 pallet slots – bringing its total to 48,000 slots – and will be equipped with semi-automated high-rack storage technology.

In addition to cross-dock, short-term and long-term storage areas, the new facility will also have a drone port which can be used for parcel deliveries.

The logistics center now has 59 loading docks for all vehicle types.

SAF investment

Meanwhile, in early December, cargo-partner and Lufthansa handled their first SAF shipment directly from Vienna Airport.

The shipment took off from Vienna Airport and landed at Dallas Fort Worth Airport in Texas the following day.

The airfreight shipment was carried out on behalf of a customer from the cosmetics industry and amounted to a volume weight of 340 kg.

Jo Feiks, corporate director product management air cargo at cargo-partner, said: “We are pleased to set this first important milestone for sustainable transport technology together with our long-standing partner Lufthansa.

“For both companies, it was the first shipment to depart from Vienna under SAF criteria. With this starting signal, we want to jointly pave the way for CO₂-neutral logistics.”
