Ukraine’s Supernova Airlines receives operator’s certificate

New York-based logistics company Nova Global’s new Ukrainian cargo airline Supernova Airlines has received an operator’s certificate that will enable it to carry out cargo flights.
Kyiv-based Supernova issued a statement, according to Ukrainian news agency, which said it plans to carry out its first cargo flight in spring, carrying shipments ordered by Nova Global customers.
The airline is currently developing its own fleet of aircraft. It has already leased two Antonov AN-26 aircraft.
Supernova Airlines expects to operate flights from Boryspil and Lviv international airports after the end of the Russia-Ukraine war, however, while the Ukrainian skies are closed for flights, air transportation will be carried out from the European airports closest to Ukraine.
The airline was founded in 2021 and, according to its LinkedIn page, the first technical flight of the company took place in November 2022 from Maribor (Slovenia) to Piestany (Slovakia).
Krasnozhon Yaroslav has been chief executive of the airline since October 2021. He was most recently chief pilot for Kyiv-based Bees Airline from July 2020 until September 2021, and director of flight operations for State aviation enterprise “Ukraina” from March-July 2020.

Nova Global said on its website it creates products and digital solutions for business and personal life; its key focus is the global B2C cross-border market for e-commerce and marketplaces.
In May last year, Antonov Airlines announced it was aiming to transfer its operations base to Leipzig, Germany, following the damage and destruction of some of its aircraft and its home base in Kyiv.
