The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), in partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), has appointed Marco Alvarenga and Paul Cheetham as cargo agency commissioners.

The Cargo Agency Commissioner Program was set up in 1992 and resides within the IATA Cargo Agency Program, overseen by the Cargo Agency Conference (CAConf).

The cargo agency commissioner is an independent arbiter appointed jointly by IATA and FIATA to conduct reviews on decisions and/or actions affecting agents/intermediaries and applicants under the Cargo Agency Program and Intermediary programmes, including the Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS).

The dispute resolution services are available upon request to IATA registered cargo intermediaries, including CASS associates, and to would-be cargo intermediaries, as well as to IATA and its member airlines.

Alvarenga has been appointed for Area 1 & 2, encompassing Western Hemisphere (excluding the US), Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He has held several leadership positions in IATA over the past 35 years and recently retired from the Association.

Cheetham has been appointed for Area 3, encompassing Asia, Australia, and South-West Pacific. He is a logistics professional who has served as a director and managing director of various companies within the air cargo industry for over 40 years.

These appointments are effective January 1 2024.
