Volga-Dnepr steppes in for rare Russian horses

Volga-Dnepr Group has flown six endangered Przewalski horses from France to Russia as part of a project to reintroduce the animals to the Ural steppes of Russia.
One of the Group’s Boeing 737-400SF freighters carried the rare horses from Montpellier in France to Orenburg, located on the Ural River some 1,500km southeast of Moscow.
The horses were accompanied by three representatives of the Association for the Przewalski Horse to ensure their safety and wellbeing throughout the six-hour flight.
For their journey, organised by both Volga-Dnepr and its scheduled arm AirBridgeCargo Airlines, the horses were transported in special stables.
Alexey Grebinyak, lead load planning specialist at AirBridgeCargo Airlines, said: “We took the utmost care of these special animals. The stables were carefully installed and secured inside the cargo cabin and ambient noises were minimised to ensure the horses were as comfortable as possible. We also maintained the temperature in the cargo hold below 20°C."
Following their safe arrival in Orenburg, the horses completed the final part of their journey by road.
