A321s to refresh Delta narrowbody fleet

Delta is to acquire 37 additional Airbus A321s as part of its efforts to renew its ageing narrowbody fleet. The new planes will replace older-generation jets, including the MD-88.The airline’s incoming chief executive, Ed Bastian said the order would allow it to accelerate the retirement of Delta’s 116 MD-88s.
The new planes, which are being acquired near the end of the model’s production cycle, increase Delta’s  A321 fleet to 82 and will be delivered concurrently with existing A321 orders to 2019.
