Heathrow handler goes live with UPS contract

Heathrow-based Freightnet Handling has gone live with a new contract to handle integrator UPS’s Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) air export cargo, initially for two years. The company anticipates that it will be handling around 33,000kg of cargo a day, seven days a week.
Freightnet was already handling a percentage of the business including screening assistance and ULD building (including UPS ‘5X’ cargo builds) for the UPS freighter network, when it was invited to tender for the work last November.
Freightnet said its successful bid was helped by its centralised location within the Heathrow cargo community, along with its commitment to allow UPS staff to transfer under TUPE -Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) – terms.
This would allow long serving UPS SCS staff to retain their roles and jobs.
The tender process also involved an inspection by the UPS SCS aviation security audit team to ensure the company was compliant with EU and UK legislation.
Bacon founded Freightnet in 2000 with a single vehicle. It now has 54 employees, a fleet of vehicles, and two sites that cover nearly 100,000 sq ft.
The company also operates two X ray machines on site, one of which – the Astrophysics 320kv – is currently the most powerful machine in cargo – as well as explosive trace detection.
