LUG lands Emirates handling contract at Frankfurt

Ground handler LUG Aircargo has won an airfreight contract to handle Emirates’ cargo operations for passenger and freighter aircraft at Frankfurt airport, starting from October this year.
The Dubai-based  carrier has three Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 passenger flights per day, plus eight B777 freighter flights per week from the German hub, which will provide an estimated 6,000 tonnes of additional cargo volumes per month for LUG.
Patrik Tschirch, managing director and chief executive of LUG, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to win such a demanding customer as Emirates SkyCargo. The bar is raised very high for ground handling competence as well as innovation in technology and handling.
"We are currently expanding our Health Care Centre (HCC) in our terminal in the Cargo City South. In addition, we can offer a first class service for food and flowers as shareholder in the Perishable Centre Frankfurt. This has, no doubt, contributed to the success of our tender offer."
Michael Laschet, Emirates cargo manager Germany, said: “We have opted for LUG aircargo handling as they are a professional and reliable ground handling agent that will help us fulfil our customers’ expectations and satisfy our own ambitions in terms of excellent service, an absolutely safe operation, and continued responsiveness to the evolving demands of our customers."
LUG is a subsidiary of Germany’s family-owned Dettmer Group, which is based in Bremen. The ground handler has facilities totaling 33,000 sq m in Frankfurt and 3,300 sq m at Munich airport. LUG handled a total of 300,000 tonnes at both German hubs in 2016.
