Dubai sees “bumper growth” for cargo

The UAE’s Dubai International airport (DXB) has posted a record 2,654,494 tonnes of cargo for 2017, up 2.4% on the previous year.
Despite “some fluctuation” in cargo throughput, a small drop of 0.5% in December being one example, the gateway benefited from significant growth in other months.
March, August and September all showed “bumper growth” year on year, of 8.4%, 11.8% and 5.8% respectively.
Dubai’s air cargo business has been boosted by growth in the pharmaceuticals industry; Emirates SkyCargo introduced pharma corridors in January and opened a new dedicated pharma facility, Emirates SkyPharma, last year on the back of Dubai’s growing importance in the global healthcare industry.
