Swissport sees cargo demand improve in 2017

Ground handler Swissport saw cargo demand increase in line with market growth last year.
The handler registered an 8.4% year-on-year increase in cargo volumes to 4.7m tonnes in 2017.
Revenues for the cargo segment in 2017 were up 9.2% to Sfr600m, while total company revenues improved by 6.4% to Sfr3.1bn.
Eric Born, group president and chief executive, Swissport International, said: “2017 was another successful year for Swissport. We achieved our revenue and profitability targets and grew organically through the conclusion of new client contracts and market entries.
“With the acquisition of Aerocare this month, we also set the strategic foundation for future growth in the Asia Pacific region.”
The growth in cargo figures is roughly in line with airline improvements for the year, which IATA estimates at 9%.
