Air Cargo News’ most read stories in 2021

Last year was another busy 12 months for the air cargo industry, with COVID-19 continuing to take its toll on supply chains.

Some of the challenges facing the industry were modal shift, COVID shutdowns, rising demand and ongoing capacity shortages but once again air cargo came through, playing a key role in keeping supply chains moving.

It was also a busy year for Aircargonews.net with almost 2.3m unique page views over the last 12 months.

To kick 2022 off, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at our most read stories last year:

10) Air cargo charter demand picks up due to ocean freight issues

In February of this year it became clear that ocean freight supply chains were struggling as the sector faced a box shortage in Asia, a surge in demand and port congestion.

9) Work set to start on converting the first B777 into a freighter

In April, we reported that the physical work on converting the first Boeing 777-300 into a freighter would soon get underway after the halfway phase of the Supplemental Type Certificate development was reached.

The ongoing disruption to supply chains was a major topic throughout the year and in August Air Cargo News reported on the new COVID quarantine rules for cargo workers at key gateways in China.

7) DHL achieves record earnings for full-year 2020

While 2020 was a tough year for the air cargo industry, it was also extremely profitable. In January the Deutsche Post DHL Group reported that it expected to report record profits for the year.

6) FedEx confirms acquisition of B777F from Etihad

Also in January, FedEx confirmed the acquisition of a Boeing 777 freighter aircraft from Etihad, as it continued its fleet modernisation.

The ongoing saga of the potential sale of DB Schenker resurfaced again in August. This time, fast-growing Denmark-headquartered forwarder DSV was rumoured to be interested.
