Slovakia-based aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) firm and charter airline AirExplore has taken delivery of three Boeing 737-800 freighters to expand its cargo capacity.

The newly acquired cargo aircraft will be based at European and Middle Eastern airports, said the airline, acquired by Avia Solutions Group last year.

Martin Stulajter, chief executive of AirExplore, said: “With the rise of e-commerce volumes around the world, airfreight operations are becoming more and more viable. At the same time, I expect phase out of older aircraft types operating cargo routes for newer types like our B737-800 NG series.”

In a press release last month, Bratislava Airport-based AirExplore confirmed it had five cargo planes. These are all 737-800Fs.

Four out of five 737-800Fs are currently under wet lease contracts, noted AirExplore at the time.

“The company is wet leasing all its fleet to customers across Europe while operating one cargo aircraft in a scheduled cargo programme.”

The new additions to the fleet bring the overall passenger and cargo fleet to 17 aircraft.

As well as AirExplore, Avia Solutions is the parent company of operators including SmartLynx Airlines, Avion Express, Bluebird Nordic, KlasJet and Magma Aviation.

The Group has a presence in 68 countries and its cargo operators serve about 900 destinations, carrying around 600,000 tonnes a year and providing full and part charters along with wet lease service to integrators, charter brokers and other European cargo airlines.

It also has a presence at over 27 airports in Europe through its ground handling companies BGS and Aviator, providing cargo handling and other services for over 70 airlines throughout northern, central and eastern Europe.
