British Airways IT issues hit cargo customers

IT problems at British Airways have forced the cancellation of more than 100 flights at London Heathrow and Gatwick.

IAG Cargo, the freight business of British Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus, said that it had begun to automatically rebook customer shipments that have been affected by the IT glitch on the next available service.

The airline group said that at Heathrow its premium and general cargo facilitites were continuing to accept collections and deliveries, but said there were some delays at the general cargo facility.

Its Dublin, Gatwick and Madrid hubs were continuing to run as usual.

According to the BBC, 117 flights have been cancelled at Heathrow and a further 10 cancelled at Gatwick, with another 200 delayed.

The problems are affecting check-in and departure systems, with British Airways forced to revert to back-up manual systems.
