DHL Express is introducing new freighter flights between Hong Kong and Jakarta to cater for growing demand.
The service will be operated by a 20-tonne capacity Boeing 737-800 freighter four times a week. The direct flight will also help speed up the delivery of goods.
The service will transport shipments – such as e-commerce – originating from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines and Vietnam via the Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong, DHL Express said.
“Adding new direct flight from Hong Kong to Indonesia represents a significant step in enhancing our aviation network. This strategy strengthens our connectivity in Asia Pacific, and underscores our commitment to providing faster, more efficient service for our customers,” said Andy Chiang, senior vice president and managing director, DHL Express Hong Kong and Macau.
“By connecting these key Asian economic hubs closer, we are poised to meet the growing demand for seamless and reliable logistics solutions in the region, driving growth and fostering stronger business relationships.”
The express firm said that in 2022, Indonesia was Hong Kong’s sixth largest trading partner amongst Association of Southeast Asian Nationa (ASEAN) members, with bilateral trade reaching $5.7bn.
“Indonesia’s manufacturing sector has historically played a key role in the country’s economic development and now contributes to 20% of nation’s GDP, with majority of businesses located in Java island,” the company added.
“Expected to be a leading global manufacturing hub in 2030, Indonesia has introduced several policies and initiatives to boost the manufacturing sector, including a road map to make Indonesia a powerhouse in the fourth industrial revolution.”
