EMIRATES Airline has received its 50th A380, strengthening its position as the world’s largest international airline, says a company statement, writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.
This latest delivery takes the Middle East carrier’s wide-body fleet to 224, boasting the world’s largest collection of A380s and B777s.
Since April 2010, Emirates has taken delivery of 96 aircraft.
“We has seen tremendous organic growth in the past four years, probably the fastest of any airline in history. We’ve literally added capacity equivalent to what some mid-sized airlines operate but more significantly, we have maintained profitability,” enthuses Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airline.
“Moving forward, we will see quite a ramp up in the delivery programme and by late 2017 we will have around 90 A380s in our fleet to support existing and new A380 routes.”
Emirates operates the biggest A380 route network of any commercial airline, currently serving 27 airports on five continents. By the end of this year, the number of destinations served by its A380s will increase to 33.
