Africa: sprinting ahead of the pack

Africa has some of the strongest economic growth in the world, with six countries from the continent among the world’s ten fastest growing, according to the all-cargo carrier Cargolux.
The Luxembourg-based airline’s remarks come ahead of the Air Cargo Africa 2015 exhibition and conference in Ekurhuleni, South Africa.
In 2013, trade in goods between the European Union and South Africa alone amounted to over €28.5bn.
“The markets in Africa are especially important to Cargolux”, says the carrier’s executive vice-presidnet, Niek van der Weide, “our network here significantly supports the Cargolux business worldwide.”
Cargolux offers 11 flights per week from Luxembourg to 13 African destinations which also provide a link from the US to Africa.
Traffic moving to or from Africa includes car parts, heavy machinery for the oil and gas industry, perishables (including flowers) and pharmaceuticals.
“Cargolux’s African network focuses on the oil and gas industry,” adds van der Weide, “Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana, are two of West Africa’s strongest energy markets, which have increasingly demands on more direct flights for its equipment and support-related items.”
Cargolux is sharing booth 12 with Luxair at Air Cargo Africa. Air Cargo News has booth 54.
