CAL Cargo buys another freighter
27 / 02 / 2015
FREIGHTER airline CAL Cargo has acquired an additional B747-400ERF to support its plan to fly non-stop from its Liége, Belgium hub to Latin American and Asia, writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.
The purchase of the 2007 model takes the number of freighters it operates to three, completing the Israeli carrier’s fleet upgrade, says a company statement.
“We expect the freighter to be ready for service in November, giving us a competitive advantage by transporting cargo to the greatest distances around the globe," says Offer Gilboa, owner and chairman of CAL Group.
"We clearly defined a corporate strategy designed to strengthen our company and enable growth and this new aircraft is central to achieving our goals."
While many airlines are reducing or even terminating their freighter capacity, CAL is significantly extending flight distance capability and loading capacity, the statement adds.
The upgraded fleet will support the airline’s expansion plans in specialist niche cargo markets, which include oversized and overweight freight, dangerous goods, cool chain products and live animals transportation.
