MSC Air Cargo goes it alone as GSA partnership with ECS ends

MSC Air Cargo has ended its GSSA partnership with the ECS Group, which has been the airline’s GSSA in North America, Europe and Mexico since May last year.

The cargo airline’s senior vice president air cargo, Jannie Davel said in a LinkedIn post on February 20 that MSC Air Cargo stopped working with the ECS Group last week.

“We have decided to terminate our partnership with ECS effective February 15th, 2024. We express our sincere appreciation for their dedication and valuable contributions throughout our collaboration. Their commitment has played a crucial role in our journey, and we extend our gratitude for the growth experiences shared together,” said Davel.

He said that the decision comes as MSC Air Cargo aims to strengthen its “commercial capabilities” and its position in the air cargo market.

On the airline’s change in strategy, Davel said: “We are strengthening our commercial capabilities and bolstering the presence of MSC Air Cargo commercial teams worldwide, reaffirming our commitment to meeting evolving client needs globally.”

He added: “Change brings opportunities, and we’re confident this transition will lead us toward greater success. Looking ahead, we are dedicated to delivering enhanced value to our partners and clients.”

MSC Air Cargo was launched in late 2022.

The last of four newbuild Boeing 777 freighters was recently delivered to lessor Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, which is operating the freighters as part of a long-term ACMI agreement with MSC Air Cargo.

The inaugural 777F was delivered in November 2022, with the second and third 777Fs being delivered in July and November 2023, respectively.

MSC has been busy expanding its air cargo network.

In October the carrier added Milan Malpensa and Tokyo Narita to its service operating between Europe, Asia and North America.

In November, the airline added a connection from Quito (UIO) to Liege twice per week, in addition to Zaragoza to Mexico City on a weekly basis, to its service covering Europe, Asia and Latin America.
