Silk Way West has taken delivery of its latest Boeing 747-8 freighter aircraft following the approval of rights to operate flights to the US.
The Azerbaijan-based airline took delivery of its fourth 747 aircraft last week. The aircraft was met at Baku airport with a traditional water cannon.
After a two-and-a-half hour turnaround time, the aircraft was dispatched on its first commercial flight to Luxembourg with 84 tons cargo on board.
This is the 8th Boeing and 4th Boeing 747-8F aircraft that the airline will operate.
"Delivery of the new aircraft will enable the airline to make its route network even broader, including new destinations to the US," Silk Way West said.
The airline plans to operate new flights to Chicago and Dhaka along with the existing direct regular flights from the capital of Azerbaijan to Milan, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Dubai, Seoul, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
The aircraft was delivered after the airline finally won the rights to operate flights to the US and Azerbaijan and the US signed an open skies agreement.
