Lufthansa Group appoints Saeys-Desmedt to Africa sales role

Philippe Saeys-Desmedt, currently vice president sales Africa for Brussels Airlines, is to take up a new role as senior director sales sub-Saharan Africa for parent business Lufthansa Group on 1 November.
He and his team will then be responsible for the sales and commercial activities of the entire Lufthansa Group in 24 markets across sub-Saharan Africa.
This appointment comes in the wake of what is described as a “full integration” of the sales activities of Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss, Eurowings, Lufthansa and SWISS into one sales force in Africa for Lufthansa Group, as well as the relocation of the regional sales office for sub-Saharan Africa from Lagos in Nigeria to Brussels, at the headquarters of Brussels Airlines.
Philippe Saeys-Desmedt is said by Brussels Airlines to be able to bring “many years of airline management experience and expertise in different African markets” to his new position.
Since 2013, he has held the position of VP sales Africa for Brussels Airlines, responsible for a team of 350 locally based staff.
