Australian airline Qantas has taken delivery of its second A330-200P2F (passenger to freighter) aircraft from EFW.

The aircraft was converted from Qantas’ passenger fleet, said the German conversion company in a LinkedIn post on December 20,

“The A330-200P2F is going to serve Qantas Freight’s international network and can be operated for air cargo on longer routes. The conversion freighter is capable to holding up to 23 containers in the maindeck and can load XXL pallets of over 11 tonnes,” said EFW, a joint venture between Airbus and ST Engineering.

Earlier this year Qantas received its first A330-200P2F, also converted from the airline’s own passenger stock. This aircraft is being operated by Australia Post.

Conversions of the two aircraft took place at EFW in Dresden and VTMAE in Mobile/Alabama.

Each converted freighter is able to carry up to 61 tonnes of gross payload on mid and long ranges.

The airline also has three EFW-converted Airbus A321P2F aircraft, operated by Australia Post.

In August 2022, Qantas Freight said it would increase its domestic fleet with six Airbus A321P2Fs to meet growing e-commerce demand from its customers.

Air Cargo News has contacted Qantas for clarification on whether these conversions are due to go ahead as planned.

Qantas said in a press release last August that the passenger A321s would be sourced on the open market and are due to arrive between 2024 and mid-2026 for conversion.

The A321’s are due to replace the airline’s long-term fleet of Boeing 737 freighters. According to Planespotters.net, Qantas Freight currently operates four 737Fs.

Also included in the Qantas Freight fleet is one Boeing 767F and three British Aerospace 146-300s.
