Silk Way takes delivery of B747-8Fs

AZERBAIJAN-based cargo airline Silk Way has taken delivery of its two new B747-8 freighters, writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.
The aircraft will strengthen the position of the Baku trade hub by improving levels of efficiency, says a company statement.
Zaur Akhundov, president of SW Holding, the parent company of Silk Way, reveals: "We strive to be a successful and profitable cargo operator by investing in our fleet and our services and also by continuing to increase our regional and international footprint.
“The delivery of our new B747-8 freighters is a sound step forward in that direction."
Silk Way provides services to Europe, the UK and the Middle East, along with the Far East including South Korea, China and Hong Kong. It also serves international destinations through a network of alliances operating B747-400Fs and B767-300Fs.
Marty Bentrott, Boeing’s vice-president of sales for the Middle East, Russia and Central Asia, adds: “The B747-8F is the most efficient large freighter in service and the two new aircraft will now serve some of the world’s high-growth markets."
