East-West airfreight price index down 9 cents in December

“Drewry’s East-West Airfreight Price Index edged down to $3.06 per kg in December 2017, a drop of 9 cents from the previous month, in keeping with seasonality.
On an annual basis airfreight rates in the month were 8% above December 2016 and given anecdotal reports of tighter capacity, Drewry expects prices to remain well above the annual comparisons in January.”
Notes: This index is a weighted average of all-in airfreight "buy rates" paid by forwarders to airlines for standard deferred airport-to-airport airfreight services on 28 major East-West routes for cargoes above 1,000 kg.
Rates are expressed in $/kg and include three components: the base rate, the fuel surcharge and the security surcharge. They exclude door delivery costs.
