Delta Air Lines has made changes to its commercial and operations leadership within its cargo division.

Effective immediately, the carrier has appointed Jannie Davel into the role of managing director, commercial, and has also promoted Vishal Bhatnagar to managing director, global cargo operations.

Davel has more than 26 years working in the logistics business and previously held leadership positions at DHL Global Forwarding and Emirates SkyCargo. Most recently, he served as senior vice president at specialised freighter operator Global Feeder Services.

In his new role, Davel will lead Delta’s cargo commercial activities including sales, alliances and product management.

Rob Walpole, vice president of Delta Cargo, commented: “Davel and Bhatnagar are visionary industry leaders, providing real strength to our leadership team as we accelerate our journey towards best-in-class service, continued innovation and capability for our customers.

“This year will continue to be a period of both challenge and opportunity. With the global industry focus on distributing Covid-19 vaccines alongside supporting our customers during a period where global supply chains continue to face disruptions and structural hurdles, our new leadership team stands ready to assist our customers.”

Bhatnagar joined Delta Air Lines in 2017 and has helped to develop its Cargo Control Center, as well as helping to build “key business functions focused on expanding services and improving both our customer experience and operations execution capabilities”.

The company added that the appointments, alongside the existing cargo leadership team, are instrumental as the airline works to navigate its post-pandemic business recovery.
