On-Time Performance Review: Most punctual airlines and airports revealed

Analytics firm Cirium has ranked the world’s most on-time airlines and airports by size and region in its 11th annual On-Time Performance Review using data generated from its reporting and tracking tools.

In Cirium’s review, Russian airline Aeroflot is named as the world’s most on-time global mainline airline (a carrier without partner airlines), with 86.68% of its flights having arrived on-time.

Close behind, in second place, is Japan-based Nippon Airlines, with 86.26%.

“Nippon Airlines is near the top, despite suffering major disruptions from very damaging typhoons in September and October 2019,” Cirium explains in the review.

With an on-time performance of 85.69%, US-based carrier Delta Air Lines is third place, down from achieving first place last year.

Jumping up from tenth place in 2018, Latin American carrier LATAM Airlines is now top of the list for the most on-time global network airline (an airline that operates and markets its own flights, as well as flights operated by a separate airline partner), with with 86.67% of its flights having arrived on-time.

“LATAM Airlines’ performance is even more impressive considering that the airline is reducing its scheduled block times to get more operating cycles out of its fleet,” Cirium says.

For the sixth year in a row, Copa Airlines is first place for mainline and network operations in Latin America. Its mainline operations were on-time 96.2% of the time and its network operations were on-time 92.7% of the time.

In the MENA region, Qatar Airways maintains its top position for the fifth consecutive year, with an on-time performance of 82.45% for mainline and network operations.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is ranked by Cirium as the most on-time, large airport globally with 95.01% departures being on-time.

Kaohsiung International Airport topps the list for the most on-time, medium-sized airport, with 93.32% of flights on-time.

For the small-sized airports category, in first place, Koh Samui Airport had an on-time departure performance of 95.08%.
