Sheremetyevo Airport increases cargo volumes in 2019

From January to June 2019, the volume of cargo traffic at Sheremetyevo International Airport increased by 2%, compared with the same time period in 2018.

According to the airport’s recently-published performance results, it processed 148,000 tons of cargo, 22,000 tons of mail in the first six months of 2019.

Sheremetyevo Airport is the top-performing airport for cargo in the Moscow Air Cluster. Its share of the total cargo volume in the Cluster has increased from 61% to 67%, compared with the first six months of 2018. This increase is attributed to the growth of cargo traffic (to 111,000 tons) for international airlines – an increase of 2.6% compared with 2018. The volume of cargo traffic for domestic airlines remained the same as 2018 – 37,000 tons.

The structure of cargo traffic at Sheremetyevo Airport demonstrates a consistent growth trend in export traffic. In the first six months of 2019, the export of international airlines at the airport increased by more than 45%, compared with the same period last year. Domestic lines increased by approximately 10% in export cargo, and 20% in transfer cargo.

China, Germany, the Netherlands and the US are key international destinations that contributed to more than 50% of total cargo traffic. The largest increase of cargo traffic in export and transit from  January to June 2019 was recorded at Liège (LGG), Milan (MXP), Hong Kong (HKG) and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PKS) airports. In import and transit (from January to June 2019), the biggest boost was recorded at Chongqing (CKG), Beijing (PRK), Seoul (ICN), and Paris (CDG) airports.
