DB Schenker speeds up fabric delivery times for Camira

DB Schenker has helped speed up delivery times for UK textile manufacturer Camira Fabrics as it faced “significant challenges” with transatlantic deliveries.

The fabrics company said that it relied on rapid, dependable delivery to meet critical project deadlines but over recent years has faced external challenges with the likes of Brexit, Covid-19 and rising costs.

Faced with these challenges and the need to uphold its reputation for delivery reliability, the company began working with DB Schenker.

A review identified potential opportunities to optimise its distribution process and a customised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was created to address the challenges faced by the company.

DB Schenker told Air Cargo News: “We were able to streamline the supply chain by creating a pricing platform that offered a stable cost for six months, allowing future planning and costings.

“The shipping process from Door to Airport was reviewed and operational changes were made at collection and delivery locations to enhance load capacity and processing time, lowering operational processing costs, while increasing productivity.”

“To achieve the faster delivery times to the US, we reviewed the current lane details and the airline used. It became clear that the process and aligned linehaul was not meeting Camira’s requirements and impacting production.

“We worked with our US lane team to find an alternative port of entry and created a new solution, enabling a transit time reduction of one day, the clearance of goods quicker and the rolls of material meeting the production requirements in time reducing the risk of increased costs and delays.”

Camira Fabrics is headquartered in Yorkshire and produces upholstery and panel textiles for diverse sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, hospitality, and passenger transport. It has more than 8m metres of fabric in transit annually.

The forwarder added that the partnership has delivered improved visibility, faster delivery times to the US, lower costs and integrated IT support.

Peter McArthur, Camira’s head of projects, added: “As a UK textile manufacturer with global distribution to around 70 countries, speed and reliability of delivery are paramount. DB Schenker met our service requirements, offering quick, guaranteed lead times and shipment visibility, all vital in the competitive market we operate in.”
