Brussels Airport has confirmed which five companies will occupy its new cargo zone, with work on the site now underway.

The Belgian airport said that the Brucargo Central site had now been cleared of old buildings and work on roads and construction was underway, with the first building piles now laid.

In total, €70m will be invested in the site which will be located on an area measuring 83,500 sq m.

The site will have a warehouse area of 34,200 sq m with adjacent offices, as well as a staff car park and will be built by 2025

Meanwhile, five companies have been confirmed as tenants at the site: Nippon Express, Hazgo, Deny Cargo, EV Cargo and DSV.

Logsitics firm Nippon Express will take a 10,000 sq m building at the site. Dangerous goods and healthcare company Hazgo will have a 2,000 sq m facility.

Forwarder Deny Cargo will increase its warehousing space to 2,500 sq m with a facility that includes dangerous goods and cool storage.

DSV will move into a 12,000 sq m facility while the size of EV Cargo’s new warehouse was not confirmed.

Arnaud Feist, chief executive of Brussels Airport Company, said: “I am very pleased to have reached this important milestone in the redevelopment of Brucargo Central with the placement of the first piles and the announcement of the names of the five users.

“The redevelopment of Brucargo Central started about a year ago. By redeveloping this important area, Brussels Airport is creating additional real estate capacity in terms of freight and logistics to meet market demand and further optimise the zone.

“We are delighted that DSV, Deny Cargo, Hazgo, EV Cargo and Nippon Express will occupy these future buildings. These are partners, some of whom long-standing partners, of Brussels Airport who wish to grow their activities further and above all benefit from a state-of-the-art infrastructure.”

The project will also be in line with Brussels Airport’s target of Net Zero Carbon, with a BREEAM-Excellent certification, optimising the use of the area with a 30% increase in storage capacity and a 20% increase of green zones.
