Chennault International Airport in the US plans to open its new air cargo facility next month.

The Lake Charles, Louisiana-based airport said in a LinkedIn post: “The concrete is down, and we’re looking forward to an early August opening of our new $4m air cargo pass-through facility. It’s the latest initiative by the Chennault team to expand opportunities and grow the area economy.”

Construction of the 10,000 sq ft air cargo pass-through facility began in June 2021.

In February this year, Chennault said it planned for the facility be certified for international cargo by federal agency U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The airport has not yet announced any ground handling partners.

Construction of the facility has been funded by a $3m capital outlay from the state and $1m from Chennault International Airport Authority funds.
