Frankfurt cargo volumes down 12.9% in first nine months of 2022

Airport operator Fraport saw Frankfurt cargo volume decline by 12.9% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2022 to 1.47m tonnes.

This was due, said Fraport, to the overall situation of the economy as well as persistent airspace restrictions due to the war in Ukraine and comprehensive anti-Covid measures in China.

Passenger numbers at the Germany hub “surged dynamically” in the first nine months to 35.9m, following a modest start early in the year due to the braking effect of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
