Jettainer, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo and a provider of outsourced ULD management services for the airfreight sector, has entered into a strategic agreement with PACTL West, a ground handler at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PACTL is short for Pudong Airport Cargo Terminal Ltd).

The deal was announced at the recent transport logistic Southeast Asia show in Singapore. It will see Jettainer open a new hub for its lease&fly ULD leasing service at the Chinese airport. PACTL West will be responsible for handling and storing the ULDs.

Jettainer’s lease&fly service provides customers with ULDs for both short-term and long-term needs, catering to ad hoc flight operations, charters, seasonal peaks as well as new businesses or existing businesses’ growth plans.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport will represent Jettainer’s fourth lease&fly hub, adding to Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong.

Thomas Sonntag, Jettainer’s chief executive, enthused: “The cooperation with PACTL West is the ideal addition to our lease&fly network as Shanghai Pudong Airport is one of the most important air cargo hubs for our customers’ ULD leasing demand.

“Airlines and forwarders are seeking ad hoc, short-term and long-term ULD leasing solutions, often with the requirement to have ULDs directly available. The opening of our lease&fly hub in mainland China will add great flexibility to both new and existing customers and is another step in our expansion plans in Asia.”

Carsten Hernig, deputy general manager and VP sales & marketing and production at PACTL, added: “As a ground handling service provider with the highest standards of quality and professionalism, we can further improve services for airlines and forwarders onsite and in the region.

“Together with Jettainer we will contribute to meeting the demand for ULDs flexibly at all times.”

According to Jettainer, its customers will initially benefit from fast access to PMC pallets, one of the most commonly used types of ULD. The portfolio of standard and special containers and pallets will be gradually expanded henceforth in order to meet all customer requirements.

PACTL West will contribute its “extensive ground-handling expertise to ensure the smooth operation of the new hub”, Jettainer said.

Jettainer’s own Hong Kong office will take care of customer service as well as all sales activities for the region.
