Logistics firm Morrison Express has opened a new hub close to Rickenbacker International Airport to serve the fashion, electronics and retail industries.
Morrison’s new 8,250sq m facility is located around 15km from the airport and will allow the company to reach more than 70% of the US and Canada’s population within two days through a standard less-then-truckload service.
Morrison Express vice president and general manager of the Americas Tony Medeiros said: “When it comes to freight, turnaround time is everything, and both our clients and airline partners rely on seamless and expedited processes.
“Rickenbacker is an optimal distribution location for many global brands, and our ability to service their needs was a driving factor in partnering with the CFS facility there.”
The logistics company said its airline partners, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and Cargolux, make multiple 100-ton flights per week directly in and out of Rickenbacker, bypassing traditional gateways such as New York or Chicago.
Rickenbacker has been enjoying a successful spell and last year saw cargo volumes increase by 15.9% year on year to 90,082 tonnes on the back of increased operations from Cargolux, Cathay Pacific and charter operations.
And at the end of the end of last year Amazon announced plans to build a 93,000sq m distribution centre close to the airport.
