LuxairCargo ready to go green

Luxair Group’s airfreight handling division LuxairCargo says it is one of the first four companies to apply for a ‘Lean & Green’ label from the Luxembourg Government.
The scheme was launched in June 2014 by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures in collaboration with Cluster for Logistics, which promotes and develops the industry in Luxembourg.
Candidates must commit to reduce their CO2 emissions by at least 20% over five years, including identifying emission sources and drawing up a detailed action plan with relevant key performance indicators.
Optimised infrastructure management and improved staff awareness was key to LuxairCargo’s efforts, said executive vice-president, Laurent Jossart.
The operation’s electricity now comes from 100% renewable sources and all electrical handling equipment such as vehicles, the automated ULD storage system, aircraft ground power appliances and lighting are now powered by green energy.
LuxairCargo’s investment plan includes the implementation of a state of the art cold production system, LED warehouse lighting and new natural gas heating.
A team of experts constantly energy consumption and keep staff updated about the latest innovations available.
